World EV Day: Leading the charge

2026 marked a major milestone for electric vehicles in the UK. According to Carbon Brief analysis, over a 12-month period, more new electric vehicles were sold than new petrol cars for the first time.

As EV adoption grows, the infrastructure needed to keep drivers moving must keep pace, and delivering it at scale relies on expertise, collaboration and strong partnerships.
Parco Civil Engineering & Groundworks Ltd, part of The Ipsum Group, works with charge point operators, retailers, landowners and businesses to deliver EV charging infrastructure across the UK. From groundworks and cable routes to installation and energisation, its teams help take projects from plan to power.
But building an effective charging network is about more than installing charge points. Drivers need convenient, reliable access to charging in the places they already visit every day, while businesses and operators need infrastructure that can support growing demand.
Working alongside customers and partners, including InstaVolt, Parco is helping deliver this infrastructure across a range of locations, supporting the continued expansion of the UK’s EV charging network. Its work supporting the rollout of new EV charge points across Lidl’s UK stores is also helping make charging more accessible and convenient for customers and communities.
And with Ipsum’s Independent Connections Provider (ICP) capability, Parco can offer customers an integrated approach to EV infrastructure delivery.
ICP manages the DNO liaison, electrical design and grid connection works, working alongside Parco’s civils and on-site installation teams to take projects from securing the connection right through to an energised, operational charging hub.
Together, Parco and ICP can offer CPOs, retailers and landowners a genuinely turnkey solution - bringing together grid connections, design, civils and installation under one roof, with a single team supporting the project from securing the connection through to operational delivery.
It’s a proposition that brings together the complementary capabilities of Parco and ICP within Ipsum Group, helping simplify the delivery of the infrastructure needed to support the UK’s transition to cleaner transport and its journey towards achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2050.
