The proposal: Increase the number of existing charge points along a major motorway route, to ensure that adequate charging infrastructure is available in the UK to keep up with the increase in EV uptake and to improve accessibility of charging points in line with BSI PAS1899:2022 a new specification on accessible public charge points for electric powered vehicles.
One of the UK's largest charging hubs
Parco CiviI Engineering & Groundworks are proud to have been the principal contractor working with the UK's leading EV charging network, InstaVolt on expanding their largest charging hub to date. In response to continued growth in EV usage, 24 additional chargers have now been installed at their flagship site, which re-opened 21st March 2023.
The Banbury site, situated on the M40, is now one of the UK’s largest charging hubs. Originally operational with eight chargers, it now boasts an incredible 32 chargers in total following the installation of 16 new 120kW rapid chargers in addition to the previously installed eight 125kW rapid chargers and eight 150kW Alpitronic chargers.
Accessible charge points
In line with BSI PAS1899 specification for accessible charge points, the site also includes twelve wider access bays and four fully accessible bays. The four accessible bays have the required 1.2m distancing in front of, and between the charge points. All 16 new chargers are installed flush to the ground at the same level as the parking bay and the site features additional lighting throughout. The site has also been adapted to provide access to local amenities for drivers with a diverse range of accessibility needs.
The new development at Banbury forms part of InstaVolt’s dedication to developing and improving charging infrastructure, to accelerate EV uptake in the UK and Europe. The activation of the Stroud Park expansion saw InstaVolt energise its 1,000th charger in the UK, reinforcing the company’s position as the UK’s largest, fully open rapid charging network.
"Stroud Park is our flagship InstaVolt site, so this was a hugely significant project for us. The team at Parco understood our requirements and provided us with valuable support throughout. This has been a smooth process from start to finish and we couldn't be happier with the end result. We're confident this upgrade will provide vital infrastructure at a key location for EV drivers, now and in the future."
